ABOUT
SANKALP MESHRAM
Sankalp Meshram was born in Nagpur in 1966. He was brought up in Gwalior, Calcutta and Goa.
He graduated in commerce (B.COM) from Sydenham College, Mumbai and went on to do Law Post Graduation (LLB) from the Government Law College, Mumbai.
He then did the Postgraduate diploma course in Film Editing from the Film and Television Institute, (FTII), Pune in 1994.
He has been practising as a Writer, Producer, Director and Editor of films in Mumbai for the last 24 years, completing more than 150 film projects.
He continues to be an extremely busy film professional, currently working on web series projects and feature film projects, as Writer-Director and Editor.
He has received Five National Awards apart from many other Citations and Awards from other forums.
THE FILM EDUCATOR
Apart from his distinguished professional career, he has been an avid film educator since 2006.
His teaching activity is his passion-project alongside his professional work and he somehow manages to find time for teaching at the AOCC despite being a very busy filmmaker.
The reason he has started these reasonably priced independent classes is that he wants to make cinema education accessible to all students and also teach cinema in an optimal gurukul style, without institutional constraints.
Because of his intense curiosity and many years of filmmaking experience, he has mastery over all aspects of filmmaking - from Script Writing to Direction to Cinematography to Sound Recording to Editing to Audio Post to DI. Therefore he is able to teach the workflows of all these aspects in a holistic inter-related manner that is almost impossible for others to emulate.
Today he is the most sought after film educator in India. He has designed the syllabi and taught at each and every film prestigious film school in India.
Laced with wit and humour, his classroom sessions are high voltage, high energy performances brimming with insight and knowledge.
His whole approach to teaching is to try and make difficult topics easy-to-understand rather than make them esoteric and daunting.
He continues to teach filmmaking at all the illustrious film schools of India like FTII (Pune), SRFTII (Kolkata), Whistling Woods International (Mumbai), IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, LBSNAA (Mussoorie) and IIM Ahmedabad.
Sankalp Meshram has been a member of the academic council of FTII (Pune) & SRFTII (Kolkata). He was also the Dean and Academic Director of the digital academy - The film school (Mumbai) from 2006 to 2017.

AWARDS
In 2001, He received the National Award for Best Editing for the documentary film ‘Lokapriya’ – Directed by Arun Khopkar.
In 2005, He wrote and directed a Feature Film titled ‘Chhutkan Ki Mahabharat’ for which he received the National Award as Director in the Best Children’s Film category. The film has been shown in more than 100 film festivals all over the world.
In 2006 he received the IDPA award for Best Editor for the film Riding Solo to the top of the world. The film has subsequently won more than 35 international awards
In 2012, He received two National Awards as Producer and Director for the Documentary film ‘Lasya Kavya – The world of Alarmel Valli’ in the category for Best Film on Art and Culture. The film has also been shown in more than 35 international festivals.
In 2013, He wrote and directed a film on Charles Correa’s Architecture titled Into the Unknown. The film was shown at the opening ceremony of Charles Correa’s Exhibition in London titled India’s greatest Architect. The film has subsequently been shown in more than thirty film festivals.
In 2018 He received The National Award for the Documentary film ‘Girija – a Lifetime in music’ as Director in the category for Best Film on Art and Culture. The film has won three international awards to date.
In 2019 The Film T for Tajmahal has won 6 international awards already and is on its way to winning many more.
OTHER INTERESTS
Sankalp Meshram is also deeply interested in Music.
He learnt the Tabla for ten years from the Madho Music College at Gwalior.
He can also play the Djembe, Harmonium, Keyboards, Flute, Spanish Guitar and the Mouth Organ.
He also sometimes sings Hindi film songs and Semi Indian Classical Vocal Music.
He can speak seven Indian Languages – Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Konkani, Gujarati, Bundelkhandi and English.
